My name is Lew Wurdeman. It is my goal to make what I have put together about the Wurdeman family on the internet. I am hoping the other branches on the family tree can contribute as well. Our family as it came over from Germany had it's name spelled Würdemann with an umlaut over the "u". When properly dropping the umlaut you add an "e" afterwards, hence the Wuerdemann derivation of the name. Some just dropped the umlaut without adding the "e" as my family did. My family went a step further with my grandfather dropping the last "n". My father is Robert Wurdeman who was born in Nebraska. When I have more time I will move forwards and backwards with the family tree and will post pictures and artifacts from our family. We have an amazing history which I will try to put together. My many thanks to my Aunt Adele that was the first to really gather things up and made this all possible.

 Wurdemann family crest obtained from Dr. Wurdeman, Seattle, WA In attempting to research the crest we obtained this information: "The arms is not registered or granted in Germany. Wuerdemann or Woerdemann is an old Westfalian or Northern German name. Wuerde is the dialect word for hill, the meaning of the name is "the man who is living on the hill". You see the arms is punning the name." Regarding the hat the people on the crest are wearing, "It is an old type of hat (three-cornered-hat) worn by German farmers until the 19th century. Today it is a part of national costumes in Germany, Black Forest for example. You look frontally at one of the three brims. That is the reason why it looks similar to a Chínese coolie hat."
